Classic Cars at The Wharf and Mullet Toss at the Line

Bama Coast Cruisin' and the Flora-Bama Mullet Toss made late April one of the loudest, funniest, and most colorful spring weeks on the coast.

The week of April 20 brought two very different kinds of Gulf Coast tradition: polished classic cars at The Wharf and the perfectly strange, beloved chaos of Mullet Toss at the Flora-Bama.

It is hard to find a better example of the area's personality. One crowd came for chrome, hot rods, vintage details, and family-friendly strolling. Another came to stand at the Alabama-Florida line and watch people throw a mullet across state borders for charity and bragging rights.

Bama Coast Cruisin' at The Wharf

The 17th Annual Bama Coast Cruisin' ran April 23-25 at The Wharf in Orange Beach. The event is free for spectators and turns Main Street into a car show backdrop, with classic cars, hot rods, vendors, restaurants, and the Ferris wheel all working together.

For families, it is one of the easier spring events to enjoy because you can wander, eat, shop, and leave when the kids are done. For The Wharf, it is another strong reminder that the property functions as much like a town center as it does an entertainment district.

Flora-Bama Mullet Toss

The Flora-Bama Interstate Mullet Toss & Gulf Coast's Greatest Beach Party ran April 24-26 at the state line. It is one of those events that sounds made up until you have been there: participants throw a mullet from Florida into Alabama, crowds gather all weekend, and proceeds support local charities.

The Mullet Toss also has a practical local impact. Orange Beach, Perdido Key, and the east side of the island see heavier traffic, restaurants fill up, and vacation rentals near the line get a noticeable bump.

Late-April Local Notes

  • The NCAA Beach Volleyball setup window began around this period as Gulf Shores prepared for championship week at Gulf Place.
  • Beach alcohol restrictions remained in place on public beaches through April 28, so visitors had to keep spring beach rules in mind.
  • Restaurants and retail around The Wharf, Perdido Pass, and the Flora-Bama corridor saw strong event-driven foot traffic.

Why It Matters

Late April is a preview of how varied tourism can be here. Not every visitor is chasing the same trip. Some want concerts and cars, some want beach parties, some want quiet family days, and some are checking out neighborhoods while they are already in town.
